A Crankie is a mechanism around which a scroll of decorated paper turns. Inscribed on the scroll is a story, and as the images move by we see that story unfold.
I often use Crankies in my work as a simple way of creating wonder in an audience. It is rhymthic and peaceful but also gripping and inspiring. This particular Crankie (right) was my first and favourite.
Crankies also work wonderfully in workshops as you will see below.
